ARTIST STATEMENT
她和她的她 translated into English is She and Hers. “She” refers to my mother. "Hers" refers to my mother's daughter, which is me. My mother is the most important person in my life, and she is the inspiration for my work.
My thesis is about specific memories between me and my mother. For me, these stories are only in my own or my mother's mind. As a storyteller, I make and tell these stories of care and love, like a story book or photo album. I want to visualize these memories because I think these stories are worth sharing. My mother is not a confident person. She thinks that she is not good enough, especially after my father passed away. But for me, my mother is the best person in the world. She is better than she thought. I want to make these stories into works to tell my mother, whether it is the past, present, or future, my life is wonderful because of her. I think these works can not only encourage myself but also my mother. As my mother always said, “We make progress together.”
Before making the work, I needed to know more about the story between me and my mother. I collected a lot of details by calling my mother. This makes me feel like we have taken time travel. My works use many different materials depending on the details of the story: dried flowers, wood planks, and silver. There are also three different ways to present the works, ring, stickpin and brooch, so that I can carry it easily. From high school to university, I have always been abroad. I rarely have time to stay with my mother these years. Putting these small accessories around makes me feel like my mother is by my side.
I hope that the story between me and my mother is not only my memory, but also a work I am proud of.
