ARTIST STATEMENT

“Where we place the weight of our existence on the line, cast our lot with others, move from an individual consciousness to a collective one… history charges us to know the past in order to consider what we want to conserve and what we want not to repeat.” -- Adrienne Rich

Using the bulletin board as a space of collective knowledge, I invite a form of storytelling using objects and ephemera to document our time. Collaging imagery and text from mass and social media with objects, found and constructed, this collection tells a history from below.

Collective History. Copper, bronze, enamel, plastic, electronic components ,found objects, vinyl, glass, paper, chipboard, cork. 2021.

White House. Enamel on copper. 2020.

BIO

Lisa Kraushaar has spent (most of) her adult life watching the world from a window in New York City. There, she also studied jewelry design at the Fashion Institute of Technology and worked at Etsy.com for eight years. She’s also been a working artist at Longwood University and taught graphic design and digital fabrication.  An artist, enamelist, metalsmith, and, most of all, an intersectional feminist, she uses found imagery, text, loud colors, and humor to create projects that document culture and give opportunity for personal expression.
