CLAIRE WEBB

MFA 2021

Granular Panoply. PLA, epoxy clay, shell, stone, metal leaf, powdered pigment, resin, silver. 2021.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Through optically rich material manipulations I fabricate objects of wonder and inquiry that question established routes to understanding. These materials, whether in their natural state, or engineered into new enigmatic forms, activate our curiosity and suggest intrinsic potentialities.

My research compares the outcomes of rational forms of scrutiny, such as modern science, with intuitive ones, like divination. This work references various practices humans have employed over time in an attempt to illuminate the dark recesses of mystery; to extract order from randomness by any means necessary, and impart the feeling of security that certainty brings.

A Rare Strand. Air-dry clay, iridescent film, PLA, resin, iridescent knotting cord, aluminum foil, epoxy clay, silver. 2021.

Peek Earrings. PLA, pearls, citrine, epoxy clay, metal leaf, silver, resin. 2021.

Impression, Thrice Removed. fusible fibers, silver, adhesive strip, steel. 2021.

The Cradled Gaze. Hollow formed sterling silver. 2020.
